Job Description

AI Engineer to join the in-house technology team for this large, professional services business based in their Birmingham office. This is a hands-on engineering role building and deploying production-grade AI applications. You’ll see your work in real operations quickly, with AI tools adopted directly by internal business teams.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll design, build and maintain AI-powered applications, agents and automated workflows, integrating Large Language Models into real business processes. You’ll work across the full development lifecycle – from API design and data access through to AI integration, orchestration and cloud deployment.

Day-to-day this includes:

  • Building and maintaining AI agents, multi-step workflows and automation pipelines
  • Integrating LLMs via OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Anthropic Claude or equivalent
  • Developing Python-based services and RESTful APIs
  • Connecting AI systems with internal platforms using APIs and event-driven architectures
  • Deploying and maintaining applications in Microsoft Azure
  • Contributing to engineering standards, CI/CD pipelines and production reliability
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable solutions

What we’re looking for

  • Strong commercial Python engineering experience
  • Proven experience building production AI/LLM applications or agents
  • LLM integration experience – OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Anthropic or equivalent
  • REST API development and system integration experience
  • Microsoft Azure deployment experience
  • Understanding of agent patterns, orchestration and tool use
  • CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows and automated testing
  • Clear communicator comfortable working across technical and business teams

Bonus points for

  • FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, Redis
  • Copilot Studio or Azure AI Foundry
  • Docker, Kubernetes or Azure Container Apps
  • Prompt engineering and LLM optimisation
  • Experience in a regulated or professional services environment
  • Agile delivery

The environment

You’ll join a collaborative in-house technology function within a leading professional services business. The team sits at the centre of the organisation’s AI ambitions – building real solutions used daily by internal teams, not just running pilots.
