Project Manager – SharePoint Online & Microsoft 365 Migration (12 Month FTC)
Job Description
Project Manager with a strong Microsoft 365 and SharePoint Online background needed to lead a document management project for a UK professional services firm. This is a 12-month fixed term contract with flexible hybrid working.
The role
You will lead the project from start to finish. That starts with understanding how documents are stored and managed today and shaping the target model. It then covers platform architecture and tool choice, moving the content across, and making sure people actually use the new setup. An implementation partner has been selected, and you will be the person keeping them on track against cost, quality, scope and plan, while making sure they work well alongside internal teams.
Day to day you will:
- Build and maintain the budget, plan, resourcing and timeline, and report progress across each phase
- Lead the move away from legacy network drives and other stores into SharePoint Online and the wider Microsoft 365 estate, covering clean-up of redundant and out of date content, migration in waves, cut-over and switching off old systems
- Bring together requirements from every service line and support function, including technology, security, risk and compliance
- Stay ahead of risks and issues, taking decisions up to the sponsor and steering group when needed
- Run project, governance and technical check-ins, and keep business stakeholders clearly informed
- Oversee how access control, retention, DLP, sensitivity labelling and lifecycle rules are set up in Azure AD and Microsoft Purview, so the platform meets governance and regulatory needs
What you’ll bring
- At least five years running technical projects, ideally in professional services or another regulated sector
- A track record on sizeable Microsoft 365 and SharePoint Online programmes, preferably including migrating on-premises file shares to the cloud
- Solid working knowledge of Teams, OneDrive, Azure AD and Purview at enterprise scale
- Experience directing external implementation partners, including SOWs, signing off deliverables and keeping a grip on commercials
- Flexibility across delivery methods such as Agile, Waterfall, Scrum or PRINCE2, choosing the right approach for each stage
- A good understanding of records management, information governance, GDPR and retention, and how these become platform settings
- ITIL and service transition know-how, including readiness for go-live and handover to support teams
- The organisation to juggle several workstreams at once, and the presence to deal confidently with senior stakeholders, technical teams and suppliers
- PMP, PRINCE2 or CSM certification would be a real plus
It would also help if you have
- A degree in computer science, IT, information management or similar
- Experience preparing an organisation for Microsoft 365 Copilot or other AI-driven knowledge management
- A background leading change and adoption across a large user base spread over many sites
