Cyber Security Officer

Job Description

Cyber Security Officer needed by a well-established not-for-profit organisation in Hertfordshire, taking the lead on keeping its people, services and data safe. This is a practical, operational role rather than an engineering one. You’ll be the go-to person for cyber security across the business, working alongside the ICT team and a number of outsourced partners, and reporting into the Chief Digital & Technology Officer.

You’ll own the security agenda day to day: shaping policy, managing risk, coordinating the response when something goes wrong, and making sure the rest of the organisation understands what good security looks like. It suits someone who enjoys getting things done and can explain technical risk in plain English.

The role

• Writing and keeping security policies and procedures current, in line with recognised standards
• Running cyber risk assessments, agreeing how each risk will be handled and reporting progress
• Taking charge of security incidents, from first response through to lessons learned
• Keeping on top of monitoring and vulnerabilities, and making sure fixes are delivered by internal teams and suppliers
• Building staff awareness through training and targeted campaigns
• Giving security input on new projects, system changes and cloud services
• Pulling together audit evidence and supporting data protection compliance
• Managing the relationship with security suppliers
• Helping the organisation plan for and recover from disruption

About you

• Hands-on background in cyber or information security, including incidents and vulnerability management
• Strong Excel skills are essential. You’ll be working with and reporting on security and risk data regularly
• Comfortable with Microsoft 365, Entra ID, endpoint and email security, and core networking
• Good grasp of UK data protection requirements
• Able to write clear policies and reports for a non-technical audience
• Confident building relationships and influencing colleagues at all levels
• Security+, ISO 27001 Foundation or similar, or equivalent experience
