Senior Power BI Developer

Job Description

We’re working with a leading UK insurance company who are scaling up their data and analytics capability. They are looking for a Senior Power BI Developer to take ownership of their reporting suite, shaping how data is modelled, visualised, and delivered to the business.

The Role

As a senior member of the BI team, you’ll lead the design and development of advanced Power BI dashboards and data models that support strategic and operational decision making across underwriting, claims, finance, and customer analytics. You’ll mentor junior developers, influence data governance standards, and ensure best practice across the Microsoft BI stack.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, build, and optimisation of Power BI dashboards, reports, and semantic models.
• Partner with stakeholders across underwriting, claims, and finance to translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Ensure best practice in DAX, data modelling, and Power Query for complex calculations and data transformations.
• Optimise performance of large datasets, integrating with Azure SQL, Synapse, and data lakes.
• Establish and promote standards for BI development, governance, and data quality.
• Mentor and support junior BI developers, driving a culture of knowledge sharing.

About You

• Proven experience as a Senior BI Developer, specialising in Power BI.
• Expert-level DAX and data modelling skills, with strong knowledge of Power Query.
• Hands-on experience with Azure SQL, Synapse, or equivalent data platforms.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at senior business level.
• Experience in the insurance, financial services, or regulated industries is highly desirable.
• Leadership or mentoring experience preferred.
